Validated Tools

The Quality Assurance (QA) division focuses on continuous quality improvement (CQI) specific to increased efficiency in recidivism reduction and fidelity of the tools and programs delivered by staff. This process consists of in-person staff observation and coaching pertaining to; program delivery, assessments, and case planning. In addition, The QA division offers a variety of cognitive behavioral trainings at the Correctional Training Academy and other local sites. Training offered at these locations include but are not limited to; ORAS, Anger Control Therapy, Carey Guides, Case Planning, Core Correctional Practices, Decision Points, and Motivational Interviewing

The Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Corrections, in collaboration with the University of Cincinnati and other criminal justice stakeholders, developed, tested, and validated, the Ohio Risk Assessment System (ORAS). This dynamic system is consistent with current-based research on the predictors of criminality and recidivism. The ORAS, which contains both screening and assessment components, is utilized with offenders across community supervision, with additional versions specific to prison, parole, and reentry populations in Ohio.
