2017 Polar Bear Lunge at LeCI

Staff Members and their Friends/Family members joined together and participated in the 2017 Special Olympics Ohio Polar Bear Plunge.   This year’s team along with the inmates raised $6325.00 for the Ohio Special Olympics by taking the plunge in Caesar's Creek. This was our teams 8th consecutive plunge for Special Olympics.  This was the third time that Team LeCI received recognition for being the top fundraiser.

This year’s team consisted of 62 members actually plunging.  Out of these members, 22 staff took the plunge.  These staff members volunteered their time to participate in this event.  We also had 10 support crew members and 7 of those volunteers were staff who donated their time.  Also a huge thank you to Sharon James for getting our volunteers who come out to work the event while the rest of us take the plunge.

This year,  Officers Boian, Proffitt, and Persing, took the plunge not only to raise money, but in memory of Officer J. Brewer.  Officer Brewer signed up for this event for the cause and recruited these individuals to participate.  They honored him by plunging in a T-Shirt with the Hulk on it.

Prior to the plunge, we had over 40 inmates sign up to take the plunge.  A pool was set up outside and inmates donated money to jump in.  These inmates raised over $300.00 for this 1st Annual Plunge here at the institution.

A special thanks to our business sponsors that come out year after year: ServPro of Middletown,  Dominos Pizza,   Frickers, and to OCSEA Chapter 8310. Together with our business sponsors, our team donations, and money raised at our workplace, we have made it over the $85,000 mark in donations since our first torch run in Jan 2008.
