BeCI Offenders Become American Legion Members

Belmont Correctional Institution’s Incarcerated Veterans Organization (BIVO), officially became members of the St. Clairsville, Ohio, Post 159 American Legion.  Approximately one year ago, BIVO and Post 159 established a relationship and shortly after began coming to the monthly BIVO meetings.  Veterans who are members in good standing of the BIVO organization, and meet the membership criteria of the American Legion, were able to be sworn in as new members.  The American Legion members are able to offer support to these incarcerated veterans.  BIVO members in turn have been able to donate over $1,000 to Post 159 through fundraisers.  The American Legion then donates the money to local charitable organizations.
