20 September Jerry Howe Receives OCSEA Veterans Award September 20, 2016 By ODRC Institutions, Southern Ohio Correctional Facility (SOCF) Jerry Howe, SOCF, OCSEA Veterans Award, Christmas in July 0 For the past 10 years Jerry Howe, veteran and member of Southern Ohio Correctional Facility (SOCF) Chapter 7330, has coordinated many events for the veterans both locally and statewide. Jerry has also worked tirelessly getting and sending donations of much needed items to veterans deployed overseas. Ten years ago, Jerry began coordinating the veterans Christmas party and gift program for veterans in nursing homes and assisted living. There has been a steady increase of veterans served through these programs every year. The DRC Veterans Committee established the Christmas in July program from Jerry’s recommendation in 2014. For the past two years, Jerry coordinated the Christmas in July event for veterans in the Georgetown and Sandusky Veterans Home. In 2015, through his efforts and hard work over $2500 dollars was collected for military hats, gift cards, and door prizes for veterans living in these centers. Jerry has been recognized by many veterans’ organizations and DRC for his hard work and dedication supporting vets. Other members of the Veterans Committee have stated these programs would not be so successful without the leadership and dedication of Jerry Howe.
