London Correctional Institution Delivers Bikes

London Correctional Institution recently partnered with The Bike Lady to assemble bikes for foster children around the State of Ohio.

The Bike Lady is a nonprofit organization who partners with various businesses to ensure that a NEW bike is provided to foster children for Christmas.  The combined effort of Nationwide Children’s Hospital and the Columbus Blue Jackets Foundation provided helmets for every bike.  The Kroger Company, in addition to cash and transport, donates reusable tote bags that goes on each bike to hold the lock, helmet and safety information.  The safety information is printed at the Pickaway Correctional Institution and bows and cards are made at the Ohio Reformatory for Women.

This was the first year that London Correctional Institution partnered with The Bike Lady.  Inmates assembled 49 bikes in one day.  Institutional staff then transported the bikes to Mercer, Auglaize, Champaign and Madison Counties.

This is a wonderful project, enjoyed by both the inmates and staff.  We hope that we will be part of this project again next year.
