Hairabedian was a witness to a serious accident on his way to work. When he arrived at the scene, he observed several people frantically attempting to release a two year old boy from a vehicle involved in the accident. Lt. Hairabedian stopped and rushed over to assist. He was able to reach into the vehicle and release the trapped boy from his car seat. The boy was breathing, however, he was not responsive. The medical team arrived on scene and was able to care for the child. It was Lt. Hairabedian’s quick response that assisted in the young child being freed from the vehicle. We appreciate and applaud him for acting in such a selfless way, to help free a young child and get the medical attention he needed. For that selfless act, he was presented with the Gold Star Award by Interim Director Hudson.

We at ToCI are proud of Lt. Hairabedian and congratulate him for his selfless actions.

This is the first year for the Goose Hill Urban Garden, a community service project supported by the community to benefit the community. The garden embraces the site restrictions in place at ToCI, which prevent planting food products directly in the ground, by exploring and testing alternative urban gardening solutions. The Verti-Gro system, a vertical hydroponic system that uses stacked foam pots placed on poles with an overhead drip irrigation system, was generously donated by the Hope Community Church of the Nazarene in Oregon, Ohio. All of the work in the garden is performed by level one inmates currently housed at the Toledo Correctional Camp along with the help of two dedicated staff advisors, Officer Kenneth Koontz and Lieutenant Robert Copley. Once all the food has been harvested, it will be donated to a local food bank. Toledo Correctional Institution would like to thank Isabel Montez from the Center for Innovative Food Technologies, Seagate Food Bank, Hope Community Church of the Nazarene, and Toledo GROWs for the donation of materials and information necessary to make this community garden a true success.

Warden Presented with Patriot Award

During one of the morning meetings at TOCI, Warden Coleman was presented with the Patriot Award for his

It’s not every day that a Warden is presented an award from one of his staff members. During one of the morning meetings at TOCI, Warden Coleman was presented with the Patriot Award for his continued support of his military staff members by Mr. Robert Lucas from ESGR.
