&lt;p&gt;A total of 160 students were recognized for course work completion in areas such as Adult Basic Education, Pre-GED and GED.&amp;nbsp; Those honored included offenders who completed various apprenticeships and career-technical programs which include Auto Collision Repair, Baking, Drywall, Carpentry and Turf Management.&amp;nbsp;&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;Nine recent Ashland University (Associate Degree) graduates were also recognized. The theme of the ceremony was, &amp;ldquo;With Knowledge Comes the Power to Make a Difference in Your Life and the World&amp;rdquo;.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;The Education commencements are a biannual event at RiCI.&amp;nbsp; The Spring graduation took place at RiCI this past April.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;Deputy Warden Keisha Allen congratulated the honorees and attending family.&amp;nbsp; She reminded those in attendance that education is the #1 deterrent to recidivism.&lt;/p&gt;

</description></item><item><title>ORW Education Spring Graduation</title><link>https://www.drc.ohio.gov/education-spring-graduation</link><category>Ohio Reformatory for Women (ORW)</category><pubDate>Thu, 28 Jun 2018 15:09:12 GMT</pubDate><summary>ORW Education celebrated their Spring Graduation among staff and family.  This graduation celebrated the accomplishments of over 246 participants in the education</summary><description>&lt;p&gt;ORW Education celebrated their Spring Graduation among&amp;nbsp;staff and family.&amp;nbsp; This graduation celebrated the accomplishments of over 246 participants in the education and apprenticeship programs.&amp;nbsp; The 13 apprenticeship graduates represented Carpenter Maintenance, Electrician Maintenance, Optician, Maintenance Repair - Building and Optician Dispensing.&amp;nbsp; The academic program completers include 61 ABE completers and 90 students who completed the Pre-GED program.&amp;nbsp; &amp;nbsp;There were 73 GED graduates and 1 recipient of a High School Diploma.&amp;nbsp; This marks the largest number of GED graduates for ORW since the new computerized GED system took effect in 2014.&amp;nbsp; This years GED graduation number is a 204% increase from our August 2017 graduation numbers.&amp;nbsp; &amp;nbsp;&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;The dedicated staff and students at ORW made this accomplishment possible for our education department through hard work and commitment to the new testing requirements.&amp;nbsp; This hard work will now enable the GED graduates to access Advanced Job Training programs, Ohio Penal Industries program and equip them for successful re-entry upon release.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;We are extremely proud of the success of our students and staff at the Ohio Reformatory for Women.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;The Education and Special Services staff at RiCI expressed their appreciation to those in attendance and the graduates for their hard work and commitment.&lt;/p&gt;

Additionally, twenty-one men completed the ABE coursework while a total of 45 men either completed a vocational apprenticeship or are half way through the completion process.&amp;nbsp; Rhea Edmonds of Marion Technical College was the keynote speaker. School Principal, Ernest Mack (RiCI/ManCI) congratulated the offenders on their accomplishments. Afterwards, the graduates visited with attending family members while enjoying refreshments.&amp;nbsp; &lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt;
