Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction IPP - Alcohol and Other Drug Treatment

The problems caused by the abuse of alcohol and other drugs constitute one of the major Reentry criminogenic needs domains. This intensive program focuses on Alcohol and Other Drug treatment programming. The purpose of this program is to create an opportunity for IPP-eligible inmates to participate in a continuum of treatment that will extend from the institutional setting into the community.

Three AOD intensive programs, one at the North Coast Correctional Treatment Facility, one at the Pickaway Correctional Institution, and one at the Madison Correctional Institution, have been designed for the male offenders. One program has been designed for the female offenders. It is located at the Franklin Pre-Release Center. The program at North Coast, Madison, and Franklin are a 90-day intensive out-patient program, and the program at Pickaway is a 120-day therapeutic community. All programs offer additional components in victim awareness, life skills enhancement, community living skills, parenting skills, communication, anger management, and stress management.

Goal

To provide a comprehensive continuum of AOD treatment for inmates who have been identified as IPP eligible and assessed as having a substance abuse problem.

North Coast Correctional Treatment Facility AOD-IPP Program

Eligibility

Intensive Program participants who are classified as Level 1 and who have scored at a moderate or above level on the Prison Inmate Inventory (an AOD screening instrument) will be eligible for the program at North Coast.

Program Requirements

The NCCTF AOD-IPP is a ninety-day Ohio Alcohol and Drug Addiction Services Certified Intensive Out-Patient Program. The IOP treatment utilizes a cognitive behavioral model. All treatment staff are appropriately credentialed or licensed. The program capacity is 48 with a staff/participant ratio of 1:12. There are a minimum of 28 hours of program activities per week.

Core Program Components

The primary (AOD) program will consist of the following components:

  • Biopsychosocial Assessment
  • Individual Treatment Plans
  • Groups and Individual Counseling
  • AOD Education
  • Support/Fellowship Meeting

Secondary program focus will consist of the following:

  • Victim Awareness
  • Life Skills Enhancement
  • Community Living Skills
  • Parenting Skills
  • Communication
  • Anger Management
  • Stress Managements

Continuing Care

Upon successful completion of the IPP treatment program, each offender will be on post-release control for a period that is presumed to be at least one year. An individual continuing care plan will be developed prior to program completion that will include a recommendation for or against a halfway house placement of thirty to sixty days duration and/or for outpatient treatment.

Community Service

Each program participant will attend the service learning workshop and will complete four hours of community service work per week.

Evaluation of Participants

Each program will conduct monthly Quality Assurance activities. Staff and inmate satisfaction surveys will be completed at the end of each program cycle. Inmate participants will be evaluated according to the Participant Evaluation Form. Inmates must score "satisfactory" or above in each area.

Pickaway Correctional Institution AOD-IPP Program

Eligibility

IPP participants who are classified as Level 1 and Level 2 who have scored at a moderate or above level on the Prison Inmate Inventory, (an AOD screening instrument) will be eligible for the program.

Program Description

The PCI AOD-IPP is a 90-day therapeutic community. All participants are required to go through a 30-day pre-treatment curriculum on motivation in order to maximize the effect of the subsequent programming. All treatment staff are appropriately credentialed or licensed. The program capacity is 30 with a staff/participant ratio of 1:15. The program delivers a minimum of 36 hours of program activities per week.

Core Program Components

The therapeutic community program at PCI will consist of the following components:

  • Biopsychosocial Assessment
  • Individual Treatment Plans
  • Groups and Individual Counseling
  • AOD Education
  • Support/Fellowship Meeting
  • TC Specific Activities

Secondary programming will consist of the following additional components:

  • Victim Awareness
  • Life Skills Enhancement
  • Community Living Skills
  • Parenting Skills
  • Communication
  • Anger Management
  • Stress Management

Community Service

Each program participant attends the service learning workshop and completes four hours of community service work per week.

Continuing Care

Upon successful completion of the IPP treatment program, each offender will be screened for post release control supervision that may be for a period up to one year. An individual continuing care plan will be developed that may include placement in a community TC for two months.

Evaluation of Participants

Each program will conduct monthly Quality Assurance activities. Staff and inmate satisfaction surveys will be completed at the end of each program cycle. Each inmate participant will be evaluated according to the Participant Evaluation Form. Inmates participants must score "satisfactory" or above in each area.

Madison Correctional Institution AOD-IPP Program

Eligibility

Intensive Program participants who are classified as Level 1 and who have scored at a moderate or above level on the Prison Inmate Inventory (an AOD screening instrument) will be eligible for the program at Madison.

Program Requirements

The MaCI AOD-IPP is a 90-day Intensive Outpatient Program based on cognitive behavioral model. All treatment staff are appropriately credentialed or licensed. The program capacity is 24 clients. There are a minimum of 28 hours of program activities per week.

Core Program Components

The primary (AOD) program will consist of the following components:

  • Biopsychosocial Assessment
  • Individual Treatment Plans
  • Groups and Individual Counseling
  • Rational Thinking Skills
  • Thinking Errors
  • Relationship Skills
  • Relapse Prevention Skills
  • AOD Education
  • Support/Fellowship Meeting

Secondary program focus will consist of the following:

  • Victim Awareness
  • Life Skills Enhancement
  • Release Preparation Programming

Community Service

Each program participant will attend the service learning workshop and will complete four hours of community service work per week.

Continuing Care

Upon successful completion of the IPP treatment program, each offender will be screened for post release control supervision that may be for a period of up to one year. An individual continuing care plan will be developed prior to program completion that will include a recommendation for a referral to an appropriate level of continuing care in the community.

Evaluation of Participants

Each program will conduct monthly Quality Assurance activities. Staff and inmate satisfaction surveys will be completed at the end of each program cycle. Inmate participants will be evaluated according to the Participant Evaluation Form. Inmates must score "satisfactory" or above in each area.

Ohio Reformatory for Women - AOD-IPP Program

Eligibility

Intensive Program participants who are classified as Level 1 and Level 2 and who have scored at a moderate or above level on the Prison Inmate Inventory (an AOD screening instrument) will be eligible for the program.

Program Requirements

The ORW AOD-IPP is an Intensive Outpatient Program. It utilizes a cognitive behavioral model. All treatment staff are appropriately credentialed or licensed. The program capacity is 20 clients. There are a minimum of 28 hours of program activities per week.

Core Program Components

The primary (AOD) program will consist of the following components:

  • Biopsychosocial Assessment
  • Individual Treatment Plans
  • Groups and Individual Counseling
  • AOD Education
  • Support/Fellowship Meeting

Secondary program focus will consist of the following:

  • Victim Awareness
  • Life Skills Enhancement
  • Criminal Lifestyles
  • Rational Thinking Skills
  • Relapse Prevention Skills
  • Transition

Community Service

Each program participant will attend the service learning workshop and will complete four hours of community service work per week.

Continuing Care
