ANNOUNCES JAIL CONSTRUCTION FUNDS
(Columbus) -- Reginald A. Wilkinson, Director of the Department of Rehabilitation and Correction today announced grant awards for the construction of full-service jails. "The effects of jail crowding continue to be a problem in many localities," said Wilkinson. "Financial assistance programs through state and local partnerships are essential to alleviating the problem. The Department of Rehabilitation and Correction recognizes the importance of local communities having safe, secure and efficient jails and is pleased to assist them with their needs." Funding for the projects is included in the current capital bill.
The following jurisdictions selected for funding will receive $25,000 per inmate bed to construct their full-service jail:
| Noble County | $900,000 |
| Van Wert County | $1,625,000 |
| Auglaize County | $1,800,000 |
The following jurisdictions selected for funding will receive $42,000 per inmate bed for the construction of a regional full-service jail:
| Union, Champaign, and Madison Counties | $6,636,000 |
| Fayette, Clinton, and Highland Counties | $5,880,000 |
