LIMA CORRECTIONAL INSTITUTION STUDY COMMITTEE

TO CONDUCT INITIAL MEETING

 

WHAT:            Initial meeting of the Lima Correctional Institution Study Committee

 

The Lima Correctional Institution Study Committee will conduct their initial meeting, to include adopting operating procedures for the committee. Additional points of discussion shall include the procedures to be utilized in selecting a consultant to conduct the independent feasibility study, as well as the scheduling and location for the committee to hear public testimony.

WHO:              The creation of the Lima Correctional Institution Study Committee was approved by the legislature and signed into law by Governor Ted Strickland in Amended Substitute House Bill119, the FY 2008-09 budget bill.

 

Terry Collins, Director of the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction, shall serve as chairperson of the committee. The members of the committee include Senator Stephen Austria, Senator Timothy Grendell, Representative Robert Hagan, Representative Robert Latta, Senator Lance Mason, Senator Shirley Smith, Representative John White, and Representative Tyrone Yates.

 

WHY:              The Lima Correctional Institution Study Committee is charged with objectively reviewing the status of the Lima Correctional Institution, which was closed in 2003, and procuring an independent feasibility study to examine the highest and best future use for the facility. The Committee shall consider the results of the independent study and submit a report of their findings to the Governor, President of the Senate, and the Speaker of the House of Representatives no later than April 1, 2008.
