Prisons Director Joins Dignitaries and Community Partners for the Grand

Opening of the Female Facility at West Central

Community Correctional Facility

(Columbus) – Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction Director Terry J. Collins joined State Representative Tony Core and David Ervin, Executive Director of the West Central Community Correctional Facility (WCCCF) today for the grand opening of the WCCCF female facility.  Also present were members of the Facility Governing Board, representatives of the Judicial Advisory Board and other local dignitaries.

DRC is a partner with WCCCF in providing critical community-based correctional services to offenders.  Director Collins is an advocate of the use of viable community corrections options that will provide needed services to the offender and make available prison beds for those violent and predatory offenders.

“The female population is one of the fastest growing segments of the prison population.  Many of these offenders are entering our system for low level, non-violent crimes, that may be better served in a community setting, allowing them to maintain that important family connection,” stated Director Collins.  “It is well known that family support is one of the main factors that contribute to a successful reentry.  We are very pleased to have this option available for female offenders.”

Capital appropriation monies in the amount of $2,845,945 was set aside for the construction of the WCCCF female facility.  WCCCF will activate 16 beds for DRC offenders under community supervision.
