New Warden Named for Oakwood Correctional Facility
(Columbus) -- Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction (DRC) Director Reginald A. Wilkinson announced today that Warden Barbara Brown, Ph.D., has been named Administrator of Mental Retardation and Developmental Disabilities Services for DRC. Director Wilkinson has named Kay Northrup the new warden of the Oakwood Correctional Facility (OCF).
Barbara Brown started her career with DRC in 1977 as a teacher at the Ohio Reformatory for Women. She was a deputy warden at the London and Madison Correctional Institutions. Dr. Brown was named warden of the Franklin Pre-Release Center in 1992, and warden at OCF in 1996. The Oakwood facility houses inmates who have been diagnosed with mental disabilities.
Brown is active in the Allen County Board of Mental Retardation and Developmental Disabilities, is on the Board of Trustees of the Ohio Association of County Boards of Mental Retardation and Developmental Disabilities, member of the American Correctional Association, is Treasurer of the Ohio Correctional and Court Services Association, and is a member of several other professional organizations.
Kay Northrup began her correctional career as a nurse at the Ross Correctional Institution (RCI) in 1989. She was promoted to Health Care Administrator at the prison in 1994 and was named Deputy Warden of Special Services at the Noble Correctional Institution in 1996. She is a member of the American Correctional Association, on the Board of Trustees of the Ohio Correctional and Court Services Association, a member of the Ohio Wardens Association, and other professional organizations. Northrup holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing from Capital University.
