and Dedication Ceremony to be Held in
of the Lucasville Prison Riot
(Columbus) – The Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and
Correction (DRC) will be holding a memorial and dedication ceremony on Friday,
April 11, 2003 in recognition of the 10-year anniversary of the eleven-day
disturbance at the Southern Ohio Correctional Facility (SOCF).
DRC Director Reginald A. Wilkinson will be joined by former hostages,
SOCF staff, DRC staff, local and state partners, as well as others who worked to
see an end to the prison siege.
The SOCF riot began on Easter Sunday in 1993.
At the ceremony on Friday, a rendering of a sculpture will be unveiled in
honor of the victims and those adversely impacted by the disturbance.
DRC will also be recognizing the accomplishments that have been made as
an agency in the past ten years.
The ceremony will be at the DRC Employee Recognition and
Memorial Park, located in Orient, Ohio, beginning at 2:00 p.m.

DIRECTIONS TO SITE: (From Columbus) Take I-71 South to the Orient exit (U.S. Route 62). Turn South (left) on U.S. 62 and follow signs to State Route 762. Turn left onto State Route 762 and go into the Orient Complex. The Employee Recognition Memorial Park will be to the left of the four-way stop signs.
