The Shawnee School operates on the grounds of the Pickaway Correctional Institution (PCI) located in Orient, Ohio. PCI serves an average of 2400 minimum, medium and close security inmates. The PCI Shawnee School is proud to commit to the following educational programs:
The Youth Transitional Program (YTP) assists student prisoners 21 years of age and under with resume development, training in “real-life” skills, interviewing, job search skills, budgeting, and computer experience. Each participant receives an email address through TEP Ohio and access to reentry resources through Alvis House/Community Connection. Students experience modern technology in a classroom setting utilizing a teleconferencing format and the Targeting Success program on a network computer. Programs unique to PCI are the Meat Processing Career Center (MPCC), Ohio Penal Industries Print Shop, the Dog Program, Advanced Job Training and Apprenticeship. An inmate can gain valuable skills learning a trade that can be utilized upon release. Staff at PCI are geared towards reducing the recidivism rate and preparing students for “Going Home to Stay”, keeping the Department’s reentry initiative alive.
