The Lost Creek Branch operates on the grounds of the Oakwood Correctional Facility (OCF), located in Lima, Ohio. OCF houses an average of 197 prisoners. The Lost Creek Branch is proud to commit to the following educational programs:

Overview

The Lost Creek Branch is a one-room schoolhouse. Cadre, inmate/patients, Apple Glen inmates, Buckeye Creek inmates all attend school together. Adult Basic Education (ABE), General Educational Development (GED), Pre-GED and Transitional Education Program (TEP) classes are run concurrently, and lessons are individualized to the needs of the student. There are several inmate tutors that volunteer their time throughout the day to help in the school and on the units. So far this year, Oakwood Correctional Facility (OCF) has had three GED graduates, which is average for the size of the institution.

The Lost Creek Branch also offers an Apprenticeship Program to the OCF cadre. The institution has approximately 66 cadre, of which 50 are currently apprentices. The apprentices enjoy working in the programs and gaining new skills. Apprentice-ship programs offered include Animal Trainer, Horticulture, Janitorial, and Maintenance fields. The Lost Creek Branch Horticulture apprentices helped in the donation of over 8,200 pounds of vegetables for the local food bank, and grow pumpkins donated to a local school.

The classroom at the Lost Creek Branch is a busy place. Students from the units come to class together where they all have individual lessons to work on. This keeps the teacher and the tutors very busy. The OCF Regional Guidance Counselor, Dean Forcum, visits the Lost Creek Branch once a month and meets with students to complete GED testing and to help when a student has questions about education.
