The primary learning experience for inmates at NCCTF falls in the arena of the GED curriculum and its related topics. The Northern Sky Learning Center offers two classes during the morning and two classes during the afternoon, five days a week. NCCTF has been pleased with the response received from inmates recently as the number of successful program graduates has increased significantly.
The Administrative Office Technology (AOT) program is an individualized computer software cluster of the state Career-Technical program. The Northern Sky Learning Center offers two AOT classes each day, one in the morning and one in the afternoon. Students who complete one or more of the courses in the cluster earn program completion certificates and develop 21st Century skills in working with technological tools. Many NCCTF students line up to access this Career-Technical program.
The Northern Sky Learning Center offers US Department of Labor Apprenticeship Programs in Animal Training, Janitor and Cook. Inmates apply for the opportunity to train in one of these specific career areas and apply their lessons in real program opportunities offered at NCCTF. Inmates learn specific skills and abilities which will translate into constructive job skills when they return to their local community and restart their life back in the real world. NCCTF has experienced significant success with these three identified apprenticeship programs.
