Fiscal year 2013 contained merges of institutions with closing and opening of camp libraries. Today there are 28 institutions with 37 libraries run by 40 fulltime library employees. We had an average monthly population of 49,309 inmates, with an average of 91,688 patron visits to the libraries each month. They borrowed a total of 40,014 books, looked at 41,060 periodicals, and used 4,344 A/V materials (audiotapes/CDs/VHS & DVDs). Patrons asked an average of 9,685 questions each month and made 2,516 Interlibrary Loan Requests each month.
The libraries have a combined total of 4,314,029 books, of which 49,190 were added during 2012/13. The libraries accepted 32,245 material donations; with a value of $128,980 in cost savings.
The Mandarin Library Automation System in each library tracks book loans and returns, makes getting overdue books back much easier. The system also provides many of the numbers used in this report. In the next few years, we will be working to merge all the library catalogs so that books currently in the system can be used and possibly lessening the number of books we will need to request from neighborhood libraries.
