FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Ohio Prison System Partners with Crime Stoppers
to Solve Cold Cases
(Columbus) – On Friday,
August 21, 2009, Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction (DRC) Director
Terry J. Collins will be joined by officials with the Central Ohio Crime
Stoppers, Inc. to unveil a poster that has been created with the hopes of
solving cold cases from the central Ohio area.
The poster unveiling will take place at 2:00 p.m. in the auditorium of
the Columbus Police Headquarters, located at 120 Marconi Blvd., Columbus, Ohio
43215.
The posters created
through this partnership will feature the photos of murder victims, along with
the date and approximate time of the crime.
These posters will be posted throughout the prisons in the central Ohio
area and will include two phone numbers which inmates can use to call in
anonymous tips. Family members and
loved ones of the murder victims will also be present at the unveiling.
One of the tip-lines is a
direct number for Central Ohio Crime Stoppers.
This will be the first time that inmates in Ohio’s prisons have been
provided with direct telephone access to Crime Stoppers.
DRC had a similar partnership last year with “Who Killed Our Kids”, a
Cincinnati-based group, and one of the featured cases was solved as a result of
an anonymous tip called in by an inmate.
For more information or if
you are planning to attend the unveiling, please contact the DRC Public
Information Office at (614)-752-1150.
