The Walker School is located on the grounds of the Correctional Reception Center (CRC) in Orient, Ohio.  CRC serves an average of 1,826 minimum, medium, close, and maximum security inmates.  The Walker School has the following educational programs:

Overview

The Walker School is pleased to highlight the CRC Short Term Offender Education Collaborative (SOEC).  The SOEC program is designed to serve 90 days or less Department of Rehabilitation and Correction Short Term Offenders (STO) with an intensive educational opportunity of Workplace Skill Building and GED preparation that begins inside the reception center with a simulated web-based learning environment.  The latter continues into the local community with a live on-line set of community based learning opportunities offered through the Ohio Literacy Network.

This approach delivers a valuable educational intervention combined with real world experiences using technology to study and to complete assignments that will benefit them in obtaining employment in their communities.  The project uses educators and technology in tandem to encourage the offenders to steer their lives into more socially acceptable directions and they learn that they have partners committed to helping them successfully reenter the community.
