18 August RiCI Officer Selected as CIT-Co Coordinators of the Year August 18, 2017 By ODRC Institutions, Ohio State Penitentiary (OSP), Richland Correctional Institution (RiCI), Trumbull Correctional Institution CIT Co Coordinators of the Year, Natalie Magee, Donald Gant, Travis Patchin, Nicole Herring, National Alliance on Mental Illness, Crisis Intervention Training 0 ODRC had four staff honored as the "2017 CIT-Co Coordinators of the Year". These Honorees are Natalie Magee (OSP), Donald Gant (Trumbull), Travis Patchin (Trumbull) and Nicole Herring (RiCI). This award is issued annually by the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI). Potential candidates for this award are individuals who serve as coordinator or co-coordinator of a CIT (Crisis Intervention Training) program at their respective facilities. Coordinators can span from various career fields, to include law enforcement/criminal justice, mental health, or advocacy. The award recipients have been critical in the success of implementing CIT for the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction. Specifically, they have assisted in planning, coordinating, implementing and tracking the ODRC CIT rollout statewide. Collectively, these individuals have taught all of the CIT classes to date which has included over 200 students over the course of seven training sessions. Staff participating in the CIT training are educated on issues often encountered with the mentally ill within institutions. The recognized employees are not only the faces of CIT at the local level, they've continually represented ODRC's CIT initiative at the state level.
