25 July Camp Sherman Cabins July 25, 2017 By ODRC Chillicothe Correctional Institution (CCI), Institutions Camp Sherman Cabins, CCI, Director Mohr, Director James Zehringer, Department of Natural Resources, Warden Jenkins 0 City wide events were held in Chillicothe, Ohio, to celebrate the centennial anniversary of Camp Sherman (1917-2017). The Chillicothe Correctional Institution was erected on the grounds of Camp Sherman and the property contains the only known building of significance remaining from that era, the Camp Sherman Library. Over three hundred visitors were given a tour of the library and were treated to a World War I skit (volunteers from the community). Director Gary Mohr and James Zehringer, Director of the Ohio Department of Natural Resources, was in attendance. The ODRC and ODNR have collaborated and the offenders from CCI are now building Camp Sherman Cabins for the state parks in Ohio. The offenders are learning an abundance of skills they will be taking with them upon their release. “This is not only a great project for the community, but knowing the offenders will be able to use the skills they are learning with them makes this a great opportunity for them as well.”, stated Warden Jenkins.
