RiCI Hosts Founders Day Celebration

RiCI hosted its first annual Founders Day Celebration.  Founders Day is celebrated on June 10th which commemorates the founders of Alcoholics Anonymous.   The founders of the program (Dr Robert Smith, Bill Wilson) originally met in Akron, Ohio in 1935, both men themselves were termed at the time as "hopeless" alcoholics.  There initial meeting lead to the implementation of the Alcoholics Anonymous recovery program which has now helped millions find sobriety and serenity over the last several decades. The Founders Day  ceremony was conducted by the RiCI Recovery Services staff.  Over 120 inmates were present for this event.  Inmates in attendance were either current or prior Recovery Services program participants.   A guest speaker spoke with the inmates about the history of Founders day and the ties to Akron area. The offenders also took part in a viewing of the movie, “My Name is Bill W” which reconstructs the accounts of the two founders that form the support group that became the basis for Alcoholics Anonymous.
