8 June NERC Conducts Ribbon Cutting Ceremony for S.T.R.O.N.G. Unit June 8, 2017 By ODRC Institutions, Northeast Reintegration Center (NERC) NERC, Ribbon Cutting, S.T.R.O.N.G., Reentry, Alex Figueiredo, Warden Harris 0 Director Gary Mohr was among several distinguished guests at NERC to participate in the Ribbon Cutting for a Specialized Unit that will gain long-term Sobriety, during their Transformation through Recovery options they will remain Optimistic of their New beginnings and will show Gratitude (S.T.R.O.N.G). This new reentry focused unit is the brain-child of Unit manager Alex Figueiredo, a former Recovery Services Specialist. Understanding the significant extent of the opioid epidemic in our communities at large, to which our residents will be released, Figueiredo had a vision to provide a more robust Reentry pathway for residents to succeed after release by providing recovery and addiction programming far above and beyond what is provided by just attending AA or NA Meetings in a prison setting. And so with that vision in mind he pitched his proposal to Warden Brande Harris and put the plan into action. One of the Unit mentors, Emily Salser, told the guests what participation in this unit means to her as well as the others in the unit who have had serious struggles with addiction. She is confident that with accountability and education she will succeed and will not relapse after her release.
