28 March ToCI Women in Corrections Volunteers March 28, 2017 By ODRC Institutions, Toledo Correctional Institution (ToCI) ToCI, Women in Correctios, Mayfair Plymouth Congregational Church, NW Ohio Food Bank 0 Members from the Women in Corrections (WIC) Committee at the Toledo Correctional Institution took part in volunteering their time in providing community service and assisting at the Mayfair Plymouth Congregational Church. Every third Saturday of each month the Congregation holds a food pantry, serving over 100 families living in the surrounding zip code areas. Families shop for various items, to include hot and cold foods, frozen foods, and produce, as well as, hygiene items, which generally last them through the week. All items are donated through the NW Ohio Food Bank and church members. The 15-20 volunteers begin sorting and setting up in the basement of the church the day prior and are ready for the shoppers by 8:30 am and are generally done by 12:00 noon. It was such a rewarding experience to work with a multitude of individuals who came from all ethnic backgrounds, ranging from ages 10-70, all belonging to different churches throughout the city. Financial or non-perishable donations can be made directly to the Mayfair Plymouth Congregational Church located at 5253 Bennett St.; Toledo, Ohio 43612. The WIC Committee remains diligent in building camaraderie with outside organizations and strives to continue our efforts to make an impact within our local and surrounding communities.
