14 September Author, Educator and Lecturer Mimi Chenfeld visits Correctional Reception Center (CRC) September 14, 2016 By ODRC Correctional Reception Center, Institutions CRC, Mimi Chenfeld, Writing Skills 0 Nationally known Columbus, Ohio Author, Educator and Lecturer Mimi Chenfeld came to the Correctional Reception Center. Offenders were given the opportunity to sign up to learn how to get their creative writing skills flowing. Everyone was in for a special treat as Ms. Chenfeld taught several ways to create new ideas and put them down on paper. The four major things that Ms. Chenfeld left with the offenders for clues on writing were: 1. What else? 2. What if? 3. Show the Idea 4. Fake it. Another one of the ideas she shared was to make the reader feel like they are in the story and to try and grab the reader right from the start so they will be interested in your story. Organized by Librarian Chuck Steinbower and also administered by teachers Jennifer Fornal and David Wheeler the Inmates showed a lot of creativity and insight in their participation and writing. Several spoke with Ms. Chenfeld afterwards and will continue writing as a form of therapy, reflection and just letting their mind expand by using their imagination. Ms. Chenfeld has a very active schedule and travels all over the nation bringing the joy of learning to all of the students she encounters.
