Noble Correctional Institution Partnership with Natural Resources

The Monarch Butterfly cannot survive without milkweed.  Their caterpillars only eat milkweed plants, and monarch butterflies need milkweed to lay their eggs. With shifting land management practices, we have lost a lot of milkweed from the landscape. ODRC, in partnership with ODNR, is working to bring back the milkweed and the Monarch in the controlled environment of our State Parks. As a community service project, offenders at Noble Correctional Institution (NCI), are removing Milkweed seeds from the pods they grow in and preparing them for planting.  NCI has prepared almost three pounds of seed, which equals an estimated 90,000 seeds per pound.
